This foundational training is designed for those new to doula work or those looking to strengthen their existing knowledge in grief support, transition work, and death companionship. We cover the essential aspects of grief and end-of-life care through an equity- and justice-centered lens, ensuring that all aspects of the human experience are honored.

This program is ideal for those who are Licensed counselors (LPC, LMHC, NCC), chaplains, mental health providers, social workers, death doulas, spiritual care workers and anyone interested in guiding others through grief, loss, change, and transition, whether for personal growth, professional development, or community service. Individual learning experiences are co-created, with hours and costs tailored to your journey.

Program Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Define the role, responsibilities, and ethical scope of practice for a death doula and grief companion.

  2. Identify and distinguish various types of grief (anticipatory, disenfranchised, traumatic, ambiguous, spiritual, and more).

  3. Recognize how grief manifests across the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social dimensions of one’s being.

  4. Support planning conversations including advance directives, VSED, MAID, and body disposition options.

  5. Describe the structure and goals of hospice and palliative care systems.

  6. Demonstrate culturally responsive, trauma-informed presence at the end of life.

  7. Integrate rituals, memory projects, and embodied practices to support individuals and communities experiencing grief.

  8. Recognize the role of personal values, bias, and burnout in end-of-life care and grief work.
